Tips for Choosing a Good Veteran Organization

Check ratings and transparency: Use Charity Navigator, CharityWatch, GuideStar to see how much of donations go to program services vs overhead.

Look for impact & metrics: Organizations that publish outcomes, how many veterans served, cost per beneficiary.

Prefer mission alignment: If you’re passionate about mental health, housing, reintegration, or medical care, pick ones focused on that.

Ensure sustainability and accountability: Boards, audits, public reports, and governance structures matter.

Local vs national balance: National groups are powerful, but local/regional veterans organizations often have on-the-ground impact and might need support more.
